MISSION:
This Library Information Literacy Advisory Committee (LILAC), established by the Council of Chief Librarians and the University Librarian, grows out of an ongoing interest and responsibility in promoting information literacy across CUNY.CHARGE:
The charge to the Library Information Literacy Advisory Committee (LILAC) is to advise the Council of Chief Librarians and the University Librarian with regard to integrating information literacy across the City University curriculum, developing information literacy support materials including assessment tools, and sponsoring information literacy related professional development activities.Organization & Administration:
Shamiana Pond, executive assistant to the University Librarian, will function as the coordinator and convenor of the committee. Website implementation will be handled by Pond and Roland Samieske of OLS. Mariana Regalado (BC) will be recorder. LILAC meetings will be held the first Wednesday of every month, location TBA.CUNY IL Tutorial Update:
Using Perkins grant money, Hostos will convert the remaining modules of the CSU tutorial with minimum modifications including new CUNY navigation. Future updates/changes to be made by Tutorial sub-committee, see below. The Tutorial will continue to reside centrally on an OLS server.A long discussion ensued regarding priorities and concerns. The top concerns of the committee are (in no particular order):
- Articulation of IL across CUNY
- Completing the CUNY IL Tutorial
- Assessment Tools and Benchmarking
- Public Relations (for IL)
- Campus and CUNY-wide written goals and objectives
From these top priorities 4 subcommittees were designated:
Committee assignments are as follows:
- Articulation
This subcommittee will look at issues of articulation from community to senior colleges both from an administrative perspective (e.g. articulation of credit-bearing courses for transfer purposes), as well as in terms of progressive information literacy goals, Gen Ed requirements, etc. This committee will also look at equivalencies across college type for information literacy, e.g., 4 yr - 4 yr; 2 yr - 2 yr.
- CUNY IL Tutorial
This subcommittee plans to do the following.Polly Thistlewaite (GC) will act as liaison with the Aleph Public Services Committee.
- Remove the current out-of-date CUNY+ module.
- Create and add a new CUNY+ module.
- Examine and modify as needed the original four tutorials.
- Examine and modify as needed the remaining (basically unmodified) CSU modules that will be loaded this month.
- Assessment
This subcommittee has not yet met.
- Public Relations (for IL)
This subcommittee has determined the following categories for a CUNY IL website, and will add content once the site is up: Public area: Instruction documents, syllabi, assessment tools, campus and CUNY-wide written goals and objectives, list of CUNY committees etc. of interest to IL (e.g. GenEd, CUE, etc.). Committee area: documents related to the work of LILAC e.g. meeting minutes.
